Performance testing is critical, especially with respect to HPHT category tools where 20,000 psi and 177°C (350°F) is rapidly becoming the category’s lower limits.
Unlike conventional applications where engineers are able to draw in a long history of experience in the design, and temperature and pressure limitation of a tool, the margin for error in HPHT is greatly reduced, and the consequences of product failure more costly and far-reaching. Therefore Severn Subsea Technologies recognizes that HPHT tools require special considerations for equipment design and testing.
Severn Subsea Technologies complies with existing test procedures and equipment as defined by ISO / API standards. However, as these set minimum levels of testing to validate a product, we expect to work with customers to define a more specific test programme – one that more accurately reflects the anticipated tool life-cycle.
In addition to temperature and pressure testing, the Severn Subsea Technologies Research Centre also includes a 135m (450ft) deep borehole which can be used for tool testing and for third party use. A base line set of well logs have been performed to enhance the test facility.
