News in brief: Landmark windfarm project for Severn Drives & Energy

Severn Drives & Energy has been awarded an £800K contract to supply and install a static var generator for an onshore windfarm in Scotland.

The 8MVAR SVG will provide reactive power compensation to regulate voltage and ensure the windfarm contributes reliable, clean energy to the grid.

Jonathan Jones, Business Director for Severn Drives & Energy, says the project represents an important milestone for the business.

“Severn Drives & Energy made a strategic decision to focus on technologies that support the renewable energy sector,” he explains. “Securing this contract underlines the value of our engineering-led offering. Grid code compliance is a significant challenge for any wind power venture, so operators need technologies, project management and engineering support that they can rely on. Severn Drives & Energy delivers on all counts.”

Completion of the 32-turbine windfarm is expected later this year, with grid connection scheduled for March 2017.
